ABOUT JENNY
My time is shared between the Purbeck Coast, Dorset and the Derbyshire Peak District; these beautiful places give me endless inspiration for my glass. I spend hours walking in nature with my Dalmatian and always have my camera with me to record imagery that will inspire my work. I really enjoy capturing seascapes and landscapes and developing them into beautiful glass designs. Infused with jewel like colours, shapes and textures, my pieces are often decorative, sometimes abstract, always colourful.
In contrast to the fluidity of my landscapes, I make a range of beautiful contemporary bowls, small window panels, self standing waves & coasters with geometrical designs. When the sun streams through the pieces, colourful shadows and patterns are projected onto the surface where they sit, creating an added joyful dimension.
MY ARTISTIC JOURNEY
My passion for glass began at Sunderland University in the late 1980’s when I studied for my BA Hons Degree in 3D Design and specialised in Glass. Alongside raising my four sons, I taught GCSE Art and Design (alongside many other subjects) for thirteen years at a local school; a brilliant experience, which was both enjoyable and very rewarding. Since then I have returned to my love of glass and now specialise in Kiln-fused glass.
I am currently a Guest Artist at The BoilerHouse Gallery, Corfe Castle and regularly assist in the gallery. My glass is displayed and for sale amongst a wonderful eclectic mix of Arts & Crafts by many other Artists. My Glass can also be found at the beautiful Purbeck New Wave Gallery in Swanage, Dorset.
MY TECHNIQUE
My kiln-fused glass landscapes and seascapes, inspired by the natural world, are created by cutting glass into shapes and intuitively arranging, layering and melting the pieces together in a kiln to form my design. This may take several firings, adding further pieces, metals and frits to create additional textures and depth. I am constantly fascinated by the endless effects that can be achieved by placing colours over colours to make new shades and every new piece creates the opportunity for more discoveries.
My range of bowls, Waves & window panels bring together my love of colour, with patterns found in geometry, nature, architecture, textiles and fashion.
I love playing with shape and colour combinations in pattern work. It takes time to create all my pieces especially the geometrical design work, where precision is required in both the cutting and assembling stages. Colours and designs always vary as every piece is individually handmade and therefore unique.
